Emily Shinder

Emily is a Clinical Psychology Master’s student at Adler Graduate Professional School. She holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Toronto Metropolitan University, where she conducted original research on childhood cognition and social perceptions. Emily brings a strong background in developmental psychology, research, and community mental health. At the Early Childhood Cognition Lab, she served as a research assistant, lab manager, and thesis student, gaining extensive experience in child-focused research, participant communication, and team leadership.
Emily has worked with children, adolescents, and individuals with developmental disabilities across a variety of clinical, educational, and community settings. As a therapeutic recreationist and integration aide at the Tamir Foundation, she supported youth and adults with diverse cognitive and emotional needs. She has also provided one-on-one support to campers with autism and led camp staff training in behaviour management and communication strategies. Most recently, Emily served as Site Lead for Manulife’s Newcomer Homework Club, where she supported children experiencing socioeconomic and learning challenges.
Emily enjoys working with children, adolescents, and families. She draws from several evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Emotion Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Emotion Focused Family Therapy for Youth (EFT-Y) and harm reduction strategies. Emily is passionate about fostering a compassionate, collaborative, and culturally sensitive therapeutic environment where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered.
