Emily Cowan

DOCTORAL ASSOCIATE
Emily is a doctoral student in the School and Clinical Child Psychology program at the University of Toronto’s Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE). She received her Master of Arts degree in the same field in 2022. Emily has experience providing treatment in individual, group, and family-based settings. She has previously practiced at the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) and Kinark Child and Family Services, and she provides ongoing services as a member of The Feelings Place’s clinical team.
At Family Psychology Centre, Emily provides clinical services for children, teenagers, and their families. She offers several modalities of treatment, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Emotion Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), and Emotion Focused Family Therapy for Youth (EFT-Y). Emily aims to foster a warm, supportive, and collaborative environment to assist children, teenagers, and their families in meeting their therapeutic goals. Her services are informed by her research exploring play-based learning, responsive interactions, and the role of expectations in supporting children’s development.
