PSYCHOLOGY RESIDENT

Samuel is a Ph.D. Student in Clinical Psychology at Queen’s University completing his doctoral residency in school and clinical psychology at the Toronto Area Residency Consortium. He completed his Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology at Queen’s University in 2018, and his Bachelor’s of Health Sciences degree, specializing in Child Health, at McMaster University in 2016. He has trained at the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board, Maple Family Health Team, Queen’s University Psychology Clinic, Student Wellness Services at Queen’s University, and Hotel Dieu Hospital. Samuel also currently receives clinical training at the Toronto Catholic District School Board. Samuel’s doctoral research focuses on help-seeking intentions and behaviours of bullied youth. He is a member of the BullyLab, directed by Dr. Wendy Craig at Queen’s University, a research group studying bullying and dating violence among teens. Samuel has received several research awards during his training, such as the Frederick Banting and Charles Best Canada Graduate School Scholarship – Master’s (Canadian Institutes of Health Research) and the Joseph Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarship – Doctoral (Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council).

Samuel provides consultation, assessment, and treatment to children, adolescents, and young adults, drawing from evidence-based treatment modalities including Emotion Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT). He works with children, youth, and families with mood/anxiety difficulties, behavioural/emotional dysregulation, obsessive-compulsive disorder, neurodevelopmental concerns (e.g., Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder), and relational difficulties. Samuel takes a culturally informed approach when working with children and families of diverse cultural backgrounds (e.g., racial minority youth, immigrant families). Samuel develops a deep, caring relationship with his clients and works collaboratively with children and their families to work together on relevant and meaningful treatment goals.
