Kunio Hessel is a Doctoral Student in the School and Clinical Child Psychology program at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (University of Toronto). He holds a Master of Arts (MA) in School and Clinical Child Psychology from OISE/UofT, and a Master of Science (MSc) in Psychology from Western University. Kunio’s doctoral research focuses on writing interventions to help children and youth with ADHD.

Kunio has experience working with children and adolescents experiencing a variety of mental health concerns and learning challenges such as ADHD, anxiety and mood disorders, autism, learning disabilities, and selective mutism. He has worked in a variety of settings, including schools, a university psychology clinic, and private practice. Kunio believes in the use of evidence-based therapeutic approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Emotion Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) and Emotion-Focused Family Therapy for Youth (EFT-Y). Kunio takes a client-centred, trauma-informed, and neurodiversity-affirming approach to therapy.
